BIO
A native of Downtown Manhattan and, later South Beach, Florida, where her parents ran Tap Tap Haitian Restaurant, Kat Coiro attended high school at Interlochen Arts Academy in Northern Michigan and later graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a degree in History and Theater. She studied directing at The Moscow Art Theater in Russia before moving back to New York and eventually Los Angeles, where she worked and studied in various capacities, in front of and behind the camera, including as a successful Voice Over Actress, as the head of development at Bold Films and as a fellow in the master's program at The American Film Institute. As a director, Coiro got her start doing shorts before moving into features, television and commercials.
Coiro often works with Film Independent as a mentor for writers and directors and she is a frequent jury member for the HollyShorts Film Festival. Coiro recently launched the Acting For The Camera program at Interlochen arts Academy.
Coiro resides in Los Angeles with her husband, actor Rhys Coiro (“Entourage”, “Texas Rising”, "Graceland"). They have three children.
